How Nether Coordinates Work

In Minecraft, one block in the Nether matches eight blocks in the Overworld on the X and Z axes. To find where to build the Nether side of a portal, divide your Overworld X and Z by 8. To go the other way, multiply by 8. The Y coordinate (height) is not scaled. An Overworld portal at X 800, Z −240 matches a Nether portal at X 100, Z −30.

Build the second portal as close to the converted point as you can. The game links a portal to the nearest one it finds nearby, so a portal far from the right spot can connect to the wrong one.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Nether ratio in Minecraft?

1 : 8. Each block you travel in the Nether covers eight blocks in the Overworld, which is why players use the Nether for fast travel.

Does the Y coordinate change between the Overworld and the Nether?

No. Only X and Z are divided or multiplied by 8. Keep the portal at a height you can reach on both sides.

Are the gaming calculators free?

Yes. They are free and run in your browser, with nothing to download and no account to create.
